The Beginning

Slow Cookin' Sol is first and foremost about cooking wholesome foods in a solar oven. But it is also about slowing down in a fast paced world and allowing the soul to steep in its own juices, basking in the warmth of the sun, staying in tune with the seasons and cooking each day to perfection in harmony with the natural world.

Granted, mid-way between fall equinox and winter solstice seems an odd time to start a blog on solar cooking - the sun is low in the sky, the days are short and the afternoon shadows long - but who is to say when, how, or why the creative process is sparked? In this case, it is sparked by hunger - hunger for home cooked foods to nourish myself and my family and hunger for a life with meaning - a life in connection with the cycles of day and night, fall and spring, hunger and satiety. "Satiety - the quality or state of being fed or gratified to or beyond capacity" (Merriem-Webster Dictionary).

On further reflection, the season of the harvest, when we give thanks for the bounty of the earth seems a perfect time to begin a blog on foods grown and cooked by the sun. And so it begins...
